A LACE GOWN, A VINTAGE GTO, AND forever after

Marisa had her ladies with her that morning, nothing overcomplicated, just a slow start that let the day build on its own. Drayton’s side had a bit more going on, a pool table set up in The Loft and a run of groomsman details shot across it, cufflinks and a watch balanced next to the cue balls, his boutonniere resting on a chessboard nearby. His mom came by for a first look and to fix his tie before anything else happened, and more than one groomsman showed up repping an FC Porto jersey, which tells you something about where this group’s loyalties lie when they’re not in suits.

Marisa’s gown was the kind of dress that photographs differently every time the light shifts, a fitted lace bodice with an illusion back, dozens of covered buttons running the length of it, and a cathedral train edged in heavier lace that trailed out behind her on the cobblestones by The Starlight Barn. Before any of that, though, her dad knelt down in the middle of the getting ready chaos and handed her a small gift, a bottle of Le Labo perfume. Getting the dress on took a small team and a few quiet tears, the good kind.

The first look happened near The Pond, just the two of them before anyone else was really around. Portraits continued from there back toward The Starlight Barn, where Drayton’s own car was waiting, a vintage white GTO with an orange stripe, parked and ready for a few shots that looked like they belonged in a different decade entirely. Marisa draped herself across the back seat at one point with her bouquet hanging out the window, which is exactly the kind of detail that makes a gallery worth scrolling through twice.

The ceremony itself happened out on the wooden dock at The Pond, a simple draped arbor at the end of it, cattails and reeds framing the water on either side. Barry, a member of Marisa’s family, officiated, and when the kiss finally came, Drayton dipped her low enough that the whole crowd lost it. Walking back up through the aisle, guests threw white petals, and our coordinator handed off signature cocktails to the happy couple for their first “cheers” as husband and wife.

Cocktail hour ran on espresso martinis, lavender spritzes, and old fashioneds from Set The Bar, while Ceremonious Strings played through both the ceremony and the hour after. The entrance into The Forsythe Barn was its own moment, both of them came down the stairs with their arms thrown straight up, not a shred of composure held back, Drayton practically bouncing. Dinner and the rest of the reception played out under the barn’s timber beams, with the stone fireplace behind the sweetheart table dressed simply in white roses and greenery, the two of them leaning into each other for a quiet portrait before the night picked back up.

The cake, three tiers from Blue Sheep Bake Shop, got cut quietly with the top tier set aside, and from there the night moved the way these nights do, fast, loud, and full. Drone shots caught them lying out on the lawn during the day, her train fanned out across the grass, veil pulled over both of their faces in one of those shots that looked ready for an editorial cover. Marisa and Drayton had a day with real style running through every part of it, and it never once felt like it was trying.
